Iceland

Way out in the North Atlantic, high up in the Arctic Circle, lies the truly remarkable country of Iceland.

A winter tour requested for my daughter Meghan's 21st birthday, linked perfectly with my wanting to scout the island as a prospective location for photography workshop tours. So along with my great friend Allen, the three of us ventured there, picked up a 4 X 4 and took a winter tour of the south.

And what an incredible experience!

In under three hours we were whisked away to another world. A world of atmospheric 'golden hour' lighting that lasts the whole (albeit short) day. Thunderous booming waves smashing upon frozen black volcanic 'sand' beaches. Impossibly blue glaciers and icebergs. Vast snow covered lava fields. Stunning mountain vistas. Plunging waterfalls and ravines. And of course, the Northern Lights.

Our week long trip allowed me to put my new Canon 5D SR through its paces at a breathtaking variety of locations that boasted scenery that truly has been forged through 'Fire & Ice'.
