Hebridean Autumn
The Outer Hebridean isles of Harris & Lewis are simply spectacular. Impossibly clear, aqua seas wash vast expanses of white sandy beaches and towering granite cliffs. Around every bend a new seascape vista opens up, and when you put on your walking boots and and take a hike over a headland, you can spend all day roaming dramatic and rarely seen landscapes without seeing a soul.
It is a place where I feel at one with my camera and I return with my OS maps time and again. In September 2018, I made a tour of the islands in a camper van. Having the opportunity to stay right on the locations I was shooting, afforded me unfettered access to really wild and unspoilt scenery. Under sweeping Autumnal skies, tough, gnarly textures are softened by the seasonal light and colour. The Scottish weather though can turn on a sixpence. One moment soft fluffy clouds traverse a bright cobalt sky, the next, threatening storm clouds sweep in and howling winds and lashing rain rip at the surface of the sea.
Here are a selection of my photographs that hopefully capture a little of the atmosphere of Autumn in the Outer Hebrides.
